Abstract
Beta-cyanoethyltrichlorosilane is prepared by heating acrylonitrile with a perchloropolysilane, e.g. hexachlorodisilane, octachlorotrisilane or decachlorotetrasilane. Temperatures of from 150 DEG to 300 DEG C. may be employed, and the process may be conducted in a closed reactor such as an autoclave. In addition to the above silane there are obtained distillable compounds or complexes containing silicon, carbon and nitrogen atoms, together with, in some fractions, hydrogen and/or chlorine.
