796,584. Flexible hoses; hose couplings. RESISTOFLEX CORPORATION. Nov. 29, 1955 [Dec. 1, 1954], No. 34163/55. Classes 99(1) and 99(2). A fire-resistant flexible hose assembly comprises a tube 1 of polytetrafluoroethylene, preferably extruded, surrounded by a flexible, tubular cover 4 of asbestos having an internal diameter greater than the outside diameter of the tube so that a substantial volume of air is enclosed between the cover and tube, and having the exposed surface thereof coated with a fuel and oil resistant flexible material 5 such as silicone rubber or a synthetic rubber, e.g., Buna (Registered Trade Mark). The cover 4 also surrounds and is secured to fittings 3 attached to the ends of the tube 1. As shown, the tube 1 is reinforced by one or more layers 2 of wire braid, preferably stainless steel, and the coating material 5 of the cover 4 is applied around the ends and on the inside of the latter so as to underlie steel bands 8 contracted or crimped to clamp the cover 4 onto the fittings 3.
