Abstract

The flexible annular joint includes a spirally wound metal ring constituting a spring, the latter being housed in a metal sheath. The sheat has two parallel flange, these being expanded to partially surround a plain plastics outer ring. The rings are coaxial and define a small vol. space which seals the joint. The sheath may include discontinuities in the region of the flanges, the spring ring being optionally dissociated with a metal hoop or an outer stop to limit the amount of deformation by the sheath. The joint may be used as a pipe joint, the chamber between the two rings acting as a buffer to check the seal integrity.
