Abstract

726,679. Packaging. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd. Dec. 3, 1953 [Dec. 4, 1952], No. 30794/52. Class 94 (1). [Also in Group XXVIII] A package for an electric cable or other long flexible article 1 coiled on a flanged drum 4 is formed of a tubular layer 11 of thin flexible plastic material on the drum barrel and a second tubular layer 12 of similar material over the coiled article, the two layers 11, 12 extending beyond the ends of the barrel and coil and being folded down inwardly into contact with each other over the ends of the barrel and coil and being clamped where they overlap between the ends of the barrel and the drum flanges 5. Preferably ring gaskets 14 of the same material as the tubes 11, 12 are inserted between the side flanges 5 and the overlapping parts of the tubes, the gaskets 14 having rings 17 which force the adjacent overlapping portion of the tubes 11, 12 against the ends of the barrel 4. The ends of the tubes 11, 12 can be brought into the overlapping position on assembly by passing a rope round the outer tube with the flanges slackened away from the drum and drawing the rope tight between, the flange and the adjacent drum-end.
