Abstract

849,943. Cable sheaths. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S (SUBMARINE CABLES) Ltd. Jan. 19, 1959 [Jan. 17, 1958], No. 1702/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 36 [Also in Group XXVIII] A metal reinforced cable sheath of which the wall comprises inner and outer layers of substantially rigid plastics material has therebetween at least two layers of helically extending reinforcing metal tapes or wires laid in opposite hands, and is provided with a cushioning layer of jute or cellular or ribbed elastomeric material adjoining one (or each) layer of reinforcing tapes or wires to accommodate a change in diameter of the reinforcing layer (or layers) during coiling of the cable. Depending upon the sense in which it is intended to coil the cable the cushioning layer may be provided between the outermost reinforcing layer and the outer wall layer (Fig. 1, not shown) or in addition between the innermost reinforcing layer and the inner wall layer (Fig. 2, not shown) or between the two reinforcing layers (Fig. 3, not shown).
