Abstract
A cable keep is a piece of equipment that would be used in the electrical industry. Its purpose is to stop the cable on a broken reel becoming tangled and unusable. The cable keep comprises a threaded shaft with a collar 1. A first flange 2 may be slid over the shaft 1 and secured to the collar by a nut 3. A second flange 4 may be slid over the other end of the shaft and secured in place by a second nut 6. A reel of cable with a damaged or missing flange may be located on the shaft between the flanges to prevent the cable from becoming an unusable tangle. The cable keep may be used to replace one or both side flanges of a conventional reel once they have broken or come off. The shaft 1 has a hole through it allowing the keep to be fitted to an electrician s cable jack. The keep may be made of plastics.
Description
Description
cable keep After many years working on construction sites as an electrician it became clear there is a problem with the reels of cable. Occasionally the ends of the reels, which are generally made from cardboard, would come off leaving an unusable tangle of cable. The cable keep is designed to keep these reels together and usable by replacing one or both sides of the broken real.
jççy features The cable keep consists of five component parts which will be of a plastic construction. These parts fit together and are held in place by two nuts. This forms a ridged structure.
Introduction to drawings
Please refer to drawing 1/3, 2/3, 3/3.
There is a thread along the shaft "figure 1" which is interrupted by a collar that stops "figure 2" from sliding past it. Once "figure 2" is in place a nut "figure 3" is screwed down "figure 4" to hold "figure 2" in place.
The broken reel of cable would then be fitted over the shaft "figure 1" and pushed against "figure 2". The shaft "figure 1" is then passed through the centre of "figure 5". Once "figure " is in place a nut "figure 6" is screwed down the shaft "figure 1" holding "figure 5" in place against the broken reel of cable.
The shaft "figure 1" has a hole through it "figure 8" so it can be fitted on a cable jack (cable stand). See drawing 3/3.
The cable keep could be reproduced in different sizes to suit different size reels of cable.
Also included are drawings of the component parts labeld 2/3 and a scetch of the cable keep labled 3/3. Claim
