Abstract
A working element for use at high temperatures (1400-1700 DEG C.) in an atmosphere containing oxygen is composed, at least in part, of a molybdenum silicon alloy (e.g. MoSi2) and has one zone, normally operative at working temperatures of 300-700 DEG C., which has a coating composed mainly of SiO2 produced by heating said zone at a temperature exceeding 1300 DEG C. in an atmosphere containing oxygen, or which consists of an alloy of silver containing 5 per cent silicon.
