Abstract

A ceramic contains leucite or substitution products (defined) of leucite in an amount that the ceramic has a mean coefficient of linear thermal expansion over the range 20 DEG -500 DEG C. greater than 200 x 10-7/ DEG C. Other ingredients include mullite, orthoglass and filspathic glass, and plasticizers, e.g. ball clay, glycerine and fluxes, e.g. felspar. The ceramic is obtained by firing a batch containing, in per cent, pottassia 8-25; alumina 20-30; and silica 50-72.
