Abstract

794,827. Temperature-responsive actuating-elements. MULLER, O. March 24, 1955 [March 24, 1954; Aug. 30, 1954], No. 8661/55. Class 64(2) [Also in Groups XXXV, XXXVII and XXXVIII] In a snap-acting bimetal strip 1 in an electric switch (see Group XXXII), an impression 2 is in the form of part of the surface of a sphere whose diameter is much greater than that of a circle of which the periphery of the impression forms the whole or a part and of which circle the diameter is at least equal to the width of the strip. Furthermore, there is a hole 3 at the centre of the impression 2 and there are impressed grooves 8, 10 extending from the impression towards the edge of the strip or towards a contact 7. The strip is 6-8 mm. wide and 0.06-0.15 mm. thick and includes a fastening hole 6 from the region of which extends a supporting tongue 11 narrower than the strip and extending to the centre of the hole 3 so that only the half bearing the contact 7 moves when the temperature reaches 80‹C, for example. The strip may have a heater winding or be heated by current flowing through it. In a starter circuit for a discharge lamp (see Group XXXV), a snapacting bimetal strip is held out of action until a non-snap bimetal latch is heated, Figs. 7-9 (not shown). In one form, Fig. 9, the bimetal latch is bent to U-shape and rests over a carbon-layer resistance heater.
