Abstract
794,173. Wire &c. staples; washers. INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Feb. 22, 1954 [March 19. 1953], No. 22891/56. Divided out of 794,172 [Group VII]. Classes 89(1) and 89(2) [Also in Group VII] An eye-unit for a hook-and-eye fastening comprises a staple 25 with a central barportion 25a having integral prongs 26 substantially perpendicular thereto, and a complementary backing-plate 30 with apertures 31 to give passage to the freeends of the prongs and having an abutmentportion 30a, which has rearwardly-extending walls 32 adjacent to it and is arranged to receive in abutting relation the 'bentover free-ends of the prongs so that the rearmost surface of said bent-over ends do not project rearwardly beyond the rearedges of the walls. The walls 32 extend longitudinally of the backing-plate 30 and define between them a channel which receives the bent-over ends of the prongs when the staple is attached to an object or material. The rear-edges of the walls 32 are rounded. The parts 27 of the prongs extending from the bar-portion 25a are substantially rectangular, providing shoulders 29 which abut against the front surface of the plate 30 and space the latter from the bar-portion when the members are attached to an article. The bar-portion 25a is preferably channelled longitudinally as shown in Fig. 4, to provide a rearwardly directed projection or bearing-surface adapted to rock upon a co-operating hookmember engaged therewith.
