Abstract
792,941. Testing hollow-ware by fluid pressure. BORDEN CO. May 24, 1956 [May 31, 1955], No. 16079/56. Class 106 (2). An apparatus for s:imultaneously testing a plurality of sealed containers 28 for leaks comprises a tank 40 for containing a liquid 12, a shelf 26 for supporting the containers 28 in the liquid 12, and means 50 above the liquid level connected to a source of reduced pressure. The containers may be held down by weights or by magnetic means 42. The tank may be of sheet steel with inspection windows therein or it may be made of transparent material. To test the cans the air pressure above the liquid 12 is reduced until the reduced pressure plus the hydrostatic pressure of the test liquid upon the cans at the lowest part thereof, is below the estimated pressure within the cans undergoing the test. If bubbles are seen to rise from a can, then the can leaks.
