753,021. Linear dimension gauges. SHEFFIELD CORPORATION. Jan. 22, 1954 [Feb. 11, 1953], No. 1953/54. Class 106 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] A controlled leakage gauging device for measuring or comparing dimensions comprises a supporting base 18, a pair of vertical sheetmetal side panels 23 attached at their lower ends to the supporting base, a vertical transparent flow tube 11 containing means, e.g. a float, to indicate the rate of flow of fluid through the tube and seated on a lower support 21 on the base, an upper support 28 seated on the upper end of the tube and mounted between the side panels, a passage 65 in the lower support connecting the lower end of the tube to the controlled leakage means and a passage 86 in the upper support connecting the upper end of the tube to a source of fluid under pressure. The front and rear edges of both side panels 23 are inwardly flanged and a lid 48 is hinged to a cross-member 34 secured between the rear of the panels. The passage 65 in the lower support is supplied with fluid, e.g. air, under pressure from a connection 60 via a regulator 63 and the passage 86, which is formed within a vertically adjustable cap portion 42 of the upper support, connects via a pipe 68 and a passage 69 in the lower support with a connection 14 for the gauging head. A by-pass connection 73 controlled by a screw 74 is provided between the passages 65 and 69 so that the amplification factor of the gauging device can be varied and an air leak passage 75, controlled by a needle valve 77 is provided in the upper support. More than one flow tube and gauging head may be provided, an additional regulator being filled with each tube. Specification 654,720 is referred to.
