1,090,463. Indicating apparatus for pneumatic gauging. SHEFFIELD CORPORATION. Feb. 8, 1965 [Feb. 14, 1964], No. 5450/65. Heading G1M. An indicating apparatus for use in pneumatic gauging circuits comprises indicating module 20 means and an inlet for air under pressure and an outlet 47a for connection to a gauging tool wherein the flow of the air is controlled in accordance with a characteristic of a product being measured, said module comprising a longitudinal unit adapted for vertical mounting, a transparent indicating tube 21a or b mounted along the forward face of said unit and having an indicating float 22a or b positioned along said tube in accordance with the upward flow therethrough, first passage means 40 being provided in said unit for connecting the air inlet to the lower end of the tube and further passage means being provided between the upper end of the tube and the said outlet characterized in that the device comprises an air supply passage 36a extending transversely through said unit, opening at its opposite ends in the opposed side faces thereof for mating relationship at each end with adjoining components of the apparatus. In the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 1 two units are shown although any number may be used depending on the number of measurements being taken by the gauging tool. The side faces of the units are adapted to engage with either the side faces of other units or the side face of a support or foot unit. The first passage means includes passages 37a and 38a Fig. 8 (not shown) which communicate through a manifold block 40 to a regulator 41 which is connected by passage 43a to the indicating tube. Due to the width of the regulators, it is necessary to mount them in alternate raised and lowered positions, Fig. 4 (not shown) and the manifold block 40 serves as an adapter which may be rotated through 180‹ to bring the passages to and from the regulator in proper co-operating relationship with the passages in the rear of each unit and with the regulator in either the raised or lowered position. Each foot unit 55, 56 includes passage means 72 only one of which is normally connected to an under pressure air supply source, the other one being closed by a plug; however if a large number of indicating units are used it may be necessary to have air supplied through both units. The transverse portion of tube 72 terminates at 73 in the side face of the foot unit for connection with the supply passage 36.
