Abstract

979,181. Liquid meters. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 5, 1962 [Oct. 11, 1961], No. 36479/61. Heading F1A. [Also in Division G1] In a liquid meter for measuring and indicating the rate of flow of a liquid and comprising a piston and cylinder 11, 12 supplied by a valve 15, piston 11 is connected to the movable contacts 14 of potentiometers 14a, 14b, which feed, respectively, a transistorised circuit controlling solenoid valves 43, 63 for reversing valve 15 by liquid pressure, and an electrical circuit incorporating a meter for indicating the velocity of the piston and hence the rate of flow (see Division Gl). Valve inlet port 53 is dimensional such that during changeover inlet 54 communicates with outlet 57 to prevent flow fluctuations. A by-pass valve 64 between inlet 54 and outlet 57 opens if the meter breaks down. The ports of solenoid valves 43 and 63 are constricted to damp the movements of valve 46.
