Abstract

1,235,980. Electrical to fluid signal transducer. MESSERSCHMITT-BOLKOWBLOHM G.m.b.H. 15 Sept., 1969 [21 Sept., 1968], No. 45427/69. Heading G4P. [Also in Division G3] An electrical to fluid signal transducer has a fluid inlet 2, two fluid outlets 3, 4, two electromagnetic devices 9, 10, and a ferromagnetic signal element 5 which can be moved into one or other of the outlets by the fluid and held there by the electromagnets. If there is no electric signal to either electromagnet, fluid (liquid or gas) accumulates above arm 6, which blocks passage 3, until it overflows into passage 4 when the inlet flow is held in passage 4 by the Coanda effect. Eddies under abutment 20 draw the other arm 7 about pin 8 into the stream where it is pressed to the left hand wall by fluid pressure. Fluid then accumulates above arm 7 and the cycle is repeated in oscillations of the outlet flow down passages 3, 4. A gap or holes between the two sides of the member 27, 28 presents damping of oscillation. If an electric signal activates an electromagnet (only one at a time) the appropriate arm is held to that electromagnet until the signal is released. The housing 1 is non-metallic. The element 5 can be shaped and positioned differently (Figs. 2, 3, 4, not shown) and adjustment channels (23, 24, Fig. 4, not shown) can be used to counteract lack of symmetry in the fork 5 and can also vary the switching time of the oscillations.
