792,497. Control of A.C. motors. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. July 20, 1956 [July 21, 1955], No. 21176/55. Class 38 (3). The starting circuit of a synchronous motor comprises a reactor 7 in series with the motor primary winding 1, said reactor being formed by a coil mounted on the core of an auto transformer 2 of the Korndorfer type. During the initial portion of the starting period, switch 8 is open, so that the voltage-drop in the reactor reduces the current drawn by the motor, and decreases as the motor current decreases. At the end of said portion of the starting period, the reactor is short-circuited without causing excessive voltage-change. The reactor and transformer may be accommodated in a cooling tank.
