Abstract

792,407. Pipe joints. SOC. VALLOUREC. Dec. 6, 1956, No. 37344/56. Class 99(1). In a fluid-tight coupling permitting relative angular movement of pipes 1, 2, a flared ring 9 attached to a bell mouth 2a on the end of the pipe 2 provides an annular space to receive a ball jointing member 3 fixed to the pipe 1, e.g., by welding, the joint being sealed by a rubber &c. packing 8 housed in an inwardly directed rim 7 on the bell mouth 2a and adapted to surround the end 1a of pipe 1, coupling being effected by rotating a loose collar 4 engaging the ring 9 ; as shown, hooks 5 enter notches 11 in a flange 10. Stops 6 on pipe 1 prevent removal of the collar. Coupling is effected by pushing the pipe end 1a past the rim 7 into the packing 8 which causes the inner lip 8a to yield resiliently and grip the pipe. Slight clearance α between the rim 7 and the pipe 1 avoids rupture of the lip 8a. The hooks 5 are then engaged with the notches 11 and are rotated approximately 180 degrees about rim 10 until they abut a boss (not shown).
