Abstract

1,132,934. Pipe couplings; joint-making packing. CORNING GLASS WORKS. 23 June, 1967 [1 July, 1966], No. 29018/67. Headings F2B and F2G. In connecting together pairs of glass pipes 12, 14 at least one of which has an unbeaded end 18, the unbeaded pipe 14 is surrounded by a band 34 having an outwardly projecting flange 36 and an annular bead 20, and a gasket 22 formed with an annular inwardly projecting rib 24 is pressed by a band 10 against the beads 16, 20 so that the bead 20 is held in sealing relationship with the pipe 14 and the rib 24. The band 10 has an inwardly projecting flange 38 which interacts with the flange 36 to prevent removal of the pipe 14 from engagement with the bead 20. The rib 24 of the rubber gasket 22 may be covered with a liner 26 of polytetrafluoroethylene and the stainless steel band 34 is bonded to the pipe 14.
