Abstract

In the releasable pipe coupling disclosed in the parent patent comprising a split coupling ring having a frustro conical section profile and lugs through which bolts may be passed to draw the two halves of the ring together and compress a stiff but elastic frustro-conical section seal ring so that it fills the gap between the adjacent outer ends of the flanges of the pipes, the improvement whereby the seal ring has a peripheral groove on its outer circumference, for the reception of an elastic sealing element e.g. an O-ring, of type such that it projects beyond outer peripheral surface of the seal ring and, after pulling together the split coupling ring, is pressed against the oppositely situated face of the pipe flange ends. The seal ring is pref. of polyamide or PTFE
