Abstract
792,312. Loud-speakers. PLESSEY CO., Ltd. (Klein, S.) June 29, 1954, No. 19025/54. Class 40 (4). In a loud-speaker having a chamber in which ion discharge takes place, e.g. as described in Specification 756,546, [Group XXXVII], the chamber 3, Fig. 1, is in communication with an exponential horn 4 adapted to radiate the higher frequencies, and a piston 5 driving a diaphragm 6 adapted to radiate the lower frequencies. The embodiment shown in Fig. 1 has a pronounced directional effect due to the narrowness of the horn 4. In a modification, Fig. 2, for general dispersion of the sound, the highfrequency horn 4 is of wide aperture and the piston and diaphragm are mounted within it. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), high and low-pass acoustic filters are inserted between the chamber 3 and the horn and piston respectively.
