Abstract
791,279. Twin wheels. ALLEN, L. R. P. Jan. 3, 1956 [Oct. 5, 1954], No. 28582/54. Classes 144 (1) and 144 (2). A flat annular metal disc 10 is mounted, by means of stud holes 16 around its inner periphery, on the wheel mounting studs of a twin wheel assembly to extend radially therebetween with its outer periphery disposed between the side walls of adjacent tyres 11 but clear of the ground, thereby to crush stones which would otherwise lodge between the tyres, each face of the disc having radial grooves 13 and/or spiral or other grooves, corrugations or flutings 14 to effect a radially outwardly directed cooling air flow over the tyre surfaces. The grooves and flutings may be relatively staggered on the two faces, and the disc may gradually increase in thickness radially outwardly from its inner peripheral portion 15, the outer edge of the disc being bevelled at 17. The depth of the flutings 14 may likewise increase towards the outer edge of the disc.
