938,741. Wheel cover discs. J. H. HIPWELL, and K. J. HIPWELL. Nov. 2, 1959 [Nov. 1, 1958], No. 35113/58. Class 144 (1). A wheel cover disc 1 which extends so that its outer periphery 12 overlies, but is spaced from the tyre-retaining flange of the wheel rim, and is formed with an annular lip or projection 6 on its inboard face to provide for snap engagement with the usual hub-cap securing studs 3 on the wheel, is provided with a wear-resistant steel strip liner 11 covering at least the lip 6. As shown, the lip 6 connects with the disc centre 7 through a radially outwardly sloping wall 8, and an annular channel 10, and the liner strip 11 is of complementary cross-section to fit snugly within the channel 10 and against the wall 8. The liner may be adhered in position, or may be of split construction to permit expansion into position by a nut and bolt expander connection between its two ends. Alternatively the liner may be slotted around its radially inner edge to permit it to be sprung into position. The disc 1 may be formed with brake-cooling louvre openings radially outwardly of the lip 6.
