Abstract

791,123. Electromagnetic relays. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH, Ltd. Dec. 8, 1955 [Dec. 13, 1954], No. 36048/54. Class 38 (5). A change-over relay for connecting coaxial cables comprises, Fig. 2, a tube 1 with a side branch 10 and containing an elongated armature 2 slidable on insulating discs 3. The armature is moved into its end positions by energization of an appropriate coil 6 or 7 and establishes in each end position electrical connection between a central contact clip 5 and the selected one of two spring contact plugs 4 (only one shown), the armature sliding within the clip 5 during its movement and having sockets formed at each end to receive the plugs 4. In another construction Fig. 4, the armature 1 is moved by energization of an appropriate coil 14 to connect a central mercury pool with the selected one of two end pools, and the armature may be retained against vibration by permanent magnets 13.
