Abstract

790,756. Nuts &c. DAVIES, J. G. Aug. 22, 1955 [Aug. 23, 1954], No. 6299/57.' Divided out of 790,754. Class 89(1) [Also in Group X] Means e.g. for securing wall and ceiling boards, such as 6, to support rails, not shown, comprises a flat plate nut 10 which has a pointed end for driving into an edge of the board 6 and a slot 11 into which the screw-threaded portion 12 of a stud 7, screwed into the upper face of the board 6, is threaded. The outer end of the plate nut 10 may be turned up at right angles, at 13, to abut against the edge of the board. In the case where the stud 7 is first screwed into the board the plate nut 10 has an open ended slot which engages round the threaded portion of the stud, the parts on each side of the slot being pointed for driving into the edge of the board. In an arrangement particularly for use at a distance from the edge of a board, the plate nut, pointed at one end, is curved along its longitudinal axis so that it can be driven into the face of the board 6 to follow a curved path and lie within the thickness of the board. In a further modification, Fig. 5, also suitable for use at a distance from the edge of the board, the nut 19 having its ends curved at 20, is dropped into a recess 21 cut in the surface of the board and then turned through an angle of 90 degrees, e.g. by inserting a screwdriver into the slot 22, so that the curved ends cut into opposite sides of the recess.
