Means for supplying stock to a wire or stripforming machine is characterized in that the wire or stock is carried by a rotatable carrier positively driven from the machine through variable disc and friction wheel gearing. A spool 15 of wire 16 is located by pins 14 on a rotating feed-table 13 and may be clamped to the table. The table 13 is rotated by a friction wheel 21 on a horizontal shaft 20 rotated by a flexible transmission cable 22 from a cam-shaft of a machine 10 for producing coiled wire springs to which machine the wire is fed by the rotation of the table 13. The shaft 20 is rotatably mounted but held against axial movement in bearings 191 on a slide 19 adjustable longitudinally by a screw 24 to vary the speed of the table 13 to suit the requirements of the machine 10. Drive from the cam-shaft of the machine to the cable 22 may be through a change-speed box.
