Abstract

729,076. Machinery guards. WILLSON LATHES, Ltd. Dec. 4, 1953 [Dec. 12, 1952], No. 31488/52. Class 80 (4). A guard for the lead screw, driving shaft, or the like of a machine having a traversing member is shown applied to a lathe, and comprises a pair of flexible steel shutters 9 which are wound on spring-loaded drums 4a at each end of the bed 1, each shutter having its free end attached to the traversing saddle 2 so that as the saddle is moved to and fro the shutters 9 are wound and unwound from their drums and continuously shield the feed shaft 12 and lead screw 13 of the lathe. In a modification the housings containing the drums 4a are mounted on the saddle and the free ends of the shutters are secured to the bed 1.
