Abstract

790,496. Windscreen cleaners. TRICO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. May 24, 1955 [May 28, 1954], No. 14968/55. Class 138(1). A windshield wiper blade 2 has a flexible backing strip 3, Fig. 2, and a flexible holder with claws 11 engaging the edges of the strip 3, the blade also having discontinuous projections 24 lying between the claws 11 and the wiping edge to prevent the claws from coming, in use, into contact with a windshield surface. The blade squeegee 2, Fig. 3, comprises an anchoring bead 14 connected by a flexible neck 18 to a body portion 17 having parallel side portions 20, converging sides 21 and a wiping edge 19, the bead 14 being embraced by the flexible backing strip 3 provided with cross-straps 16. The wiper arm pressure distributing holder comprises a primary lever 4, secondary lever 5 and a yoke 6, the lever 4 being rockably connected to the lever 5, at 12, and the lever 5 rockably connected to the yoke 6 at 13. The free ends of the levers 4 and 5 and the ends of the yoke 6 are provided with feet 10 and the claws 11 to slidably engage the edges of the backing strip 3, and the'primary lever 4 carries a connector 7 for attaching the holder to the wiper arm 8. The discontinuous projections in the form of longitudinal beadings 24 are disposed on the side portions 20 below the claws 11. A series of skid knobs 22 is also provided along each side portion 21 below the beadings 24. When clinging occurs between the wiper edge and the windshield the normally idle leading skid knobs are pulled down into contact with the windshield to relieve the pressure. When the clinging is excessive the leading beadings 24 are caused to contact the windshield and finally pass through dead-centre positions to cause the edge 19 and pressure distributing holder to be raised ,away from the windshield, as shown in Fig. 4. At the same time the trailing shoulder 23 of the body 17 contacts the underside of the backing strip 3 to limit the stretching of the neck 18.
