A resilient backing strip 13 for a windscreen wiper blade for cleaning a curved windscreen has at the end portion 22, required to be strongly curved during the wiping operation, transverse corrugations 42 to render the portion 22 more flexible than the remainder of the strip. The corrugations are formed by a pressing operation which stretches the material of the portion 22 and renders it thinner than the remainder of the strip. In an alternative construction the backing strip comprises two separate parallel members provided with transverse corrugations at both ends. Longitudinal channels may be provided along the middle portion of the strip to decrease its flexibility relatively to the end portions. Specifications 836,651 and 878,356 are referred to.
