790,372. Structural joints. CAMBRIDGE ENGINEERING & STRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd., and BROWN, K. W. Feb. 1, 1956 [Feb. 15, 1955], No. 4506/55. Class 20(2) [Also in Group XXII] In a joint between two members, for example a rafter 1 and a stanchion 9, of a metal structural frame, a flange plate 2 extends outwardly from one of the structural members near one end thereof and is stiffened by a triangular gusset 3 having one edge 5 lying in the same plane as the end edge 6 of the member, there being secured to the member and to the gusset 3 another flange member 7 lying in said plane and engaged with the other structural member 9 and bolted thereto solely by high tensile bolts 10 which pass through the flange 7 and the other structural member 9 at positions adjacent both edges 5, 6 whereby the bolts are subjected to the tensile stresses of the load. A number of further embodiments of the invention are described with reference to Figs 2-6 (not shown). The flange plates 2 and 7 and the gusset 3 are secured by welding.
