Abstract

789,692. Centrifugal pumps. AKTIEBOLAGET FLYGTS PUMPAR, and ENGLESSON, S. Aug. 6, 1955, No. 22712/55. Class 110 (1). Plant for pumping sewage or the like from a basin comprises one or more individual pump units each consisting of a pump assembled with its motor and adapted to be freely moved into engagement with a guide when lowered into the basin so that the unit is guided with its outlet in engagement with the opening of a discharge tube where it is retained in releasable but fluid-tight relation directly, or indirectly by its own weight. Sewage is pumped from a basin 1, Fig. 1, by two motor-driven pumps 10. After removal of a cover-plate 18, each pump 10 can be lowered as by means of a chain 17, with rollers 8, 9 carried by a pump bracket 6 engaging both sides of the flanges of a T-beam 5 so as to guide the pump into the position shown, with the discharge flange 15 of the pump in engagement with an entry flange 16 at the bottom of a rising main 2. The motor leads 11 are connected to a junctionbox 12. A disc valve 20 closes the exit from the inoperative pump. Instead of being on opposite sides of the T-beam flanges, as shown, the rollers 8, 9 may all engage the inner surfaces of the flanges so that, in conjunction with the inclination of the flanges 15, 16, a wedging action is obtained between the flanges 15, 16. In the modification shown in Figs. 5 and 7, each pump 10 is guided by a pair of parallel rods or tubes 29 which are engaged by members 32 of a pump bracket 33. A hook 34 on the discharge flange 15 engages an inclined back surface on the entry flange 16 of the rising main 35 to wedge the flanges together. There is a separate rising main 35 for each pump, the two rising mains being connected together near the top of the basin 1, or outside the basin, to permit inspection of the junction and any valve members therein. In further modifications, the guiding means may be formed by wires or by the rising main itself. The pumps may rest directly on flanges of the rising main, which in this case extends downwardly through the bottom of the basin and extends upwardly outside the basin.
