Abstract

1,040,207. Archimedean screw pumps. W. HUBERT & CO. MACHINEFABRIEK. May 14, 1965, No. 20598/65. Heading F1C. An Archimedean screw pump is supported in a bearing 8 at its upper end only so that the lower end is free from a bearing tending to obstruct flow. The lower end 10 of the screw is tapered so that it can lie close to the bottom 11 of the supply channel 1. The screw runs in an inclined channel having a semi-cylindrical bottom 3 and vertical sides 4. A detachable cover 5 in the form of a grid may be provided. The bearing 8 is carried by a support ring 12 which may be hinged at 13, Fig. 2 (not shown) so that the screw can be swung upwardly for inspection and maintenance. In this case, if the pump is driven directly instead of through belting 17, the driving motor acts as a counterweight.
