Abstract
789,280. Accreted filter element. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. May 23, 1956 [May 25, 1955], No. 15930/56. Class 46. A filter comprises a support 30 of impervious material having a central opening 38 and at least one other opening 40, and and element of accreted filter material 44 fixed to one side of the support 30 so as to form a chamber 46 spaced from the central opening 38 and in communication with the opening 40. The element and support may be fitted in a body 10 having an inlet passage 12 and an outlet passage 14, a cup 32 being secured to the body 10. The accreted element 44 is formed by building up a layer or layers on a suitable form from a fibrous slurry. A suitable slurry comprises, by weight, 49 per cent of ground jack pine fibre passed through a twenty mesh screen, 21 per cent bleached sulphite pulp and 30 per cent phenol-formaldehyde resin. In a modification the support 30 is formed as a troughshaped member.
