Abstract

Textile materials are dyed by applying a dyestuff and a mixture of urea with one or more substances soluble in molten urea and capable of lowering the melting-point thereof, then baking at a temperature between the melting-point of the mixture and 160 DEG C., and finally washing and drying. Specified substances are thiourea, dicyandiamide, boric acid, glycerol, ethylene glycol, sodium chloride, ammonium chloride, ammonium sulphate and decomposition products formed in situ by heating urea above its melting-point and allowing it to resolidify. The dyestuff and the mixture may be applied to the textile from aqueous solutions or dispersions, specified dyestuffs being direct, dispersed acetate, soluble acetate, aggregated acid, metal complex and leuco esters of vat dyestuffs. The process is applicable to textiles of cotton, wool, regenerated cellulose, regenerated proteins, cellulose esters, polyamides, polyesters, polyvinyl compounds and mixtures thereof. Examples describe the dyeing of viscose rayon, cellulose acetate yarn, nylon yarn and regenerated protein staple yarn.
