Abstract

In the dyeing of textile materials, the materials are treated with a dyestuff in the presence of urea and then baked at a temperature between the melting point of urea (132 DEG C.), and 160 DEG C. Preferably the textiles are impregnated with aqueous solutions of the dyestuff and urea at room temperature then dried at about 80 DEG C., baked and finally washed. The process is suitable for dyeing with direct cotton, dispersed acetate, soluble acetate, vat leuco ester, aggregated acid and metal complex dyestuffs and is applicable to textiles of cotton, wool, regenerated cellulose, artificial proteins, cellulose esters, synthetic polyamides and polyesters and vinyl resins. Numerous examples are given of the dyeing of fabrics of viscose rayon, viscose rayon-regenerated protein fibres, wool-regenerated protein fibres, cotton, nylon, polyester and cellulose acetate. Example 15 describes the dyeing of viscose rayon fabric with Solochrome Cyanine B in the presence of basic chrome acetate and Example 16 the dyeing of cellulose acetate fabric with Soledon Jade Green 2GS, the baking step effecting a reversion of the leuco ester to the parent dyestuff.
