[Also in Group IX] An insulating plate suitable for use in commutators comprises two glass fabric layers, each having a rough surface and a relatively smooth surface, the layers being impregnated with a thermosetting synthetic resin, pressed together with their rough surfaces in contact, and the resin hardened. The fabric may be velvet-like in character, may be a napped or brushed fabric, or may be a 3 and 1 twill in which thick wefts 1 of short and loosely spun glass fibre are mainly exposed on one surface, the other surface comprising mainly tightly spun, smooth warps 2 consisting of long glass fibres.
