Abstract

787,520. Earth excavating apparatus. KLEINKNECHT, A. March 23,1955 [March 24, 1954], No. 8502/55. Class 68(1) [Also in Group XXX] A grab 22 is opened and closed by a ram 23 which can turn about a vertical axis within a block 21 pivoted at 20 to a jib 14 which pivots relatively to a jib 5. As illustrated the grab may be locked against rotation within the block 21 by a pin 35 and is tilted about the axis 20 by a ram 26. The jib 14 is guided by rollers 15 to slide within a block 10 turned about a pivot 11 on the jib 5 by a ram 12. The jib 14 is slid relatively to the block 10 by a ram 18 which acts either through a system of pulleys and cables or through a pinion engaging a rack 16 on the jib 14. The jib 5 is luffed by a ram 7 and is carried by a slewing platform 3. As illustrated the grab may pick up material from in front of a bulldozer blade 27 on the vehicle and may deliver it to a tipping body 28 on the same vehicle. The jibs 5 and 14 may both telescope. The vehicle may have rubber tyred wheels 31, iron spike wheels, or an endless track.
