Abstract

A wound type capacitor comprises a metal foil having a thin flexible coating of a glass comprising boron and silicon oxides thereon, the softening temperature of the glass being higher than the melting point of the metal foil. The metal preferably consists of aluminium and the glass coating is formed by vapour deposition. The vapour deposition may be effected either by the evaporation of the glass in a vacuum and its subsequent deposition on the foil, or by the evaporation of the components of the glass which, on condensation upon the foil, interact to form a glass deposit. In the latter case, the glass may be improved by a subsequent brief heating in an atmosphere containing oxygen.
