Abstract

787,035. Hearing aids. FORTIPHONE, Ltd. April 16, 1956 [April 20, 1955], No. 11453/55. Class 40 (4). A unitary construction hearing aid comprises a member for transmitting sound from an earphone to the ear of the user, said member having a lip sealing the ear canal from external sounds and also having a switch controlling the electrical system. The aid is designed for occasional use. The casing is made in two parts 11, 12, separated by a rubber sheet 17. The main body encloses a microphone 15, dry cell 13, amplifier 14, and earphone 16. An acoustic member 23, when not in use, lies in a recess and is retained by a spring detent 25. When the detent is depressed the member 23 swings about a pivot under spring action to form an acoustic path from the earphone 16 to a vertical passage 28. When the tip 32 of the member 23 is then pressed into the ear a sprung tube 31 is slid longitudinally to complete the acoustic path from the passage 28 to the ear. At the same time the end of the tube 31 engages an electrical contact 52 to complete a circuit to the amplifier. The tip 32 is made of rubber and is washable.
