A hand micro-telephone for use as a soundpowered telephone comprises a single transducer 8 of the rocking armature type as described, for example, in Specification 666,408, which is arranged to communicate received speech to the ear from the front, or rear respectively, of its diaphragm 3 and to respond to transmitted speech at the rear, or front respectively, surface of the diaphragm 3. The armature of the single transducer 8 is connected to the diaphragm 3 by a cranked driving rod 10, and the handle 1 of the micro-telephone incorporates an exponential horn which conducts the sound from the mouthpiece 6 to the rear of the diaphragm, or from the rear of the diaphragm to the earpiece 6 respectively. Binaural listening is achieved by providing a second exponential horn (not shown) at the front of the diaphragm, both horns then being used for listening, and one for speaking.
