Abstract

786,492. Ordnance mountings. GLOSTER AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd., and STEVENTON, H. W. V. Nov. 24, 1955 [Aug. 24, 1954], No. 24593/54. Class 92 The invention relates to adjustable gun mountings (for e.g. gun harmonization in a multigunned aircraft) comprising pairs of hollow spherical seated bearings through which the gun barrel passes. A mounting located in front of a front and rear gun mounting point Fig. 9 (not shown), comprises a tubular "frame". 50 having a flange 53 for securing to the aircraft structure. Into the rear end of a tube 50 is screwed a spherical seating for a ball member 52 having a tubular extension 55 carrying a further spherical seating 56 and ball member 57 which supports the gun barrel 58. The ball member 52 is located' in elevation by a pin 59 and screwed rod 61. A similar pin and rod set at 90 degrees from the pin 59 locate the gun support in azimuth. A slightly modified mounting for use in front of a rear gun support point only, is described with reference to Figs. 5, 6, 7 (not shown). Alternatively the tubular frame may carry a pair of ball members such as 52 in which is mounted a gun support tube.
