Abstract

798,832. Gas-turbine plant. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Feb. 3, 1956 [Feb. 4, 1955], No. 3450/55. Class 110 (3). [Also in Groups XXXII and XXXIII] A flexible mounting for an aircraft engine 17 comprises a pair of front mountings 10 secured to the compressor casing 11, each consisting of a tubular core secured rigidly to fixed bracing members 19, the core being flexibly mounted within an outer tube secured to casing 11 by a bonded rubber sleeve which provides low stiffness in the longitudinal direction of the engine and high stiffness at right angles to the longitudinal direction. The mounting further comprises a pair of rear mountings 12 arranged to provide high stiffness in the longitudinal direction and low stiffness transversely of the engine. Each mounting 12 consists of alternate rubber and metal discs 21 bonded together and to each side of a flange 22 provided internally of a cylindrical casing 23. The discs 21 are bonded also to end plates 24 which are connected by a bolt 28 to the aircraft structure 20. The casing 23 has connections 30, capable of universal movement, with a horseshoe-shaped fitting 35 and stays 37, the fitting 35 being secured to the turbine casing 13 by one connection 33 that enables it to swing in its own plane and another connection 34 that permits movement transverse to such plane. The stays 37 are connected on their rearward ends to the turbine casing by means of spherical joints formed in brackets 38. Specification 561,940, [Group XXXIII], is referred to.
