Abstract
593,745. Mounting vehicle bodies on underframes. WEYMANNS, Ltd., (formerly WEYMANN'S MOTOR BODIES (1925), Ltd.), and DODSWORTH, W. E. Aug. 2, 1944, No. 14783. [Class 108 (ii)] The side members 43, Fig. 1, of the body framework of a vehicle are supported by tubular transverse bearers 1 each connected to the chassis frame by at least one joint comprising a rubber, leather or like flexible sleeve 7 interposed between the bearer and a sleeve housing which is rigidly secured to the chassis frame. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, the sleeve housing consists of a bracket 3 bolted to the chassis longitudinal 2 and a semi-cylindrical strap 5 bolted to the bracket 3, the sleeve 7, which may be formed with projecting end flanges to prevent axial displacement, being bonded to the bracket 3 and strap 5 or to a split metal liner detachably mounted in the housing. The bracket 3 is of inverted L-shape, one arm resting on the longitudinal and the other forming a plate 15 adapted to be bolted to the longitudinal. Alternatively, the bracket may terminate just below the portion containing the rubber &c. bush and may be bolted to the upper surface of an invested L-shape bracket which, in turn, is bolted to the side of the longitudinal. The member 43 may be pivotally attached to the bearer 1 by a bolt 8 or may be attached by a connection including a rubber or like bush. In another construction, Fig. 9, the tubular bearer 22, which may be reduced in diameter in one or more steps, such as 28, from the middle towards each end, is mounted in a split sleeve housing 23, 24, 25 containing a rubber or like sleeve 27 and supported by a tubular or other cross frame member 28 secured between the chassis longitudinals 2. A readily removable floorboard over each bearer permits access to the joints.
