Abstract
595,640. Attaching vehicle bodies to underframes. BRUSH ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and RAYER, F. H. March 30, 1945, No. 8096. [Class 108 (ii)] A vehicle body 3, Fig. 1, is rigidly connected to a chassis 1 at A and flexibly connected at B, B' to permit relative movement of the body and chassis both to the front and rear of the fixed anchorage. The flexible connections at B may be of rubber under shear and those at B<1> may be.under shear and compression. The rear anchorage at A is shown in Fig. 2 where 12, 13 are body cross members connected by a web .or plate 14 which is bolted at 16 to a bracket 15 secured to the chassis member 1. The floor of the saloon 10 and the platform floor 11 are secured to the plate 14. The flexible connection B is shown in Fig. 3 where spaced transverse angle irons 7 are secured to a T or two L- section members 4 by rubber blocks 6 bonded to the members 4 and side plates 5, the angle irons 4 being bolted together at 9 such that the rubber may act in shear, the bottom of the rubber blocks being extended laterally at 6 to form a cushion when the rubber is subjected to excessive shear stresses.
