Mountings.-A gunner and his weapon are supported in a high-speed vehicle such as an aircraft, and within the limiting lines of the structure, in a unit pivoted about an horizontal axis passing through or above its centre of gravity. The unit may also be pivoted about a vertical axis. A frame 7 carrying a gun 5 and a seat 4 is pivoted about stub axles 2 on the sides of the fuselage, the gunner's feet being strapped to a rest 8 to enable him to tilt the unit. Either the seat or the gun or both may be adjustable towards or away from the turning axis to adjust the unit to gunners of different weight. Preferably the weight of the gunner preponderates, so that there is always pressure on the feet. Alternatively, the sides of the member 7 may be slotted and adjustable with respect to the stub axles. Screw or lever mechanism may be provided for tilting the unit, the footrest in this case being carried by the unit. Fig. 8 shows a modification in which the horizontal axis 2 of the unit is mounted to turn about a vertical pillar 30, the gunner adjusting the unit by placing his feet against a hemispherical casing 31. The gun is separately adjustable on the unit and can be clamped.
