Class 20(2) In an arch for supporting mine roofs &c.. comprising channel section parts P1, P2. frictionally clamped by a stirrup 1 and a cross-piece 4 the latter is provided with extensions 6 curved back so as to embrace the stirrup by means of slots 7 in order to maintain the parts in alignment. A number of modifications are described, including one modified for a stirrup of great height in which the cross piece has further extensions welded to the extensions 6,. Fig. 7 (not shown). The further modification comprises a leaf spacing cross piece, Fig. 12 (not shown). In Fig. 13 the crosspiece 30 is of U-form, the sides of which are bent outwards thrice in the same cyclic directions to provide aligned apertures for securing and guiding the stirrup 1. In Fig. 14 the sides of the U-shaped stirrup are bent upwards at 38 and inwards again to provide the slots 7.
