Abstract

785,379. Mass spectrometers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. April 25, 1955 [April 29, 1954], No. 11912/55. Addition to 780,951. Class 39(1). The ion resonance mass spectrometer of the parent Specification has the pole-pieces forming the vacuum-tight end closures 4, 5 of the housing. The pole-pieces are of soft iron and plated with nickel to prevent rust. The electrode leads are attached to a base which has a lip corresponding to the lip 17 of housing aperture 6. The electrode assembly 10 is inserted through the aperture and accurately aligned with the pole-pieces by inserting dowel rods 18 within the two lips. Ion collector 15 is inserted through aperture 16. The gas samples are introduced at 14. An aperture 12 is for continuously evacuating the housing.
