Abstract
785,320. Securing wall and ceiling boards. CHURCHMAN, H. Feb. 8, 1956 [Feb. 8, 1955], No. 3762/55. Class 20(4) A ceiling or like board 10, 11, Fig. 4, is held against the ledge 12, 13, of a runner by means of a wire clip of cranked formation, the middle portion 15 of the latter reaching through the thickness of a backbone 27 of the runner at a position between the opposed faces 16, 17 of the board and its ends 18, 19 closely overlying the face 17 of the board remote from the ledge 12, 13. The runner may be in two parts connected by the portion 15 of the clip, each part having a slot to pass a cranked portion of the clip when the latter is horizontal, the extensions 23, 24 forming finger grips to facilitate turning the clip to the position shown. In a modification the backbone consists of a single thickness of strip material. In a further form the runner is formed in one piece from sheet material bent to form a backbone of double thickness. As shown in Fig. 13, the runner is in three parts, a backbone 27 connected by the clip to an intermediate part which is interengaged with the part formed with ledges 12, 13. In another form in which the boards 10, 11 are readily detachable the ledge portion of the runner, Fig. 5, has a trough 29 to receive the legs of a detachable staple 28, the central portion of the latter passing through an aperture in trough 29 to be engaged by the portion 15 of the clip. In another embodiment a spring clip has an elongated central portion received in trough 29 and its legs snap engage the portion 15. As shown in Fig. 11, a headed screw 36 is threaded into a nut 35, in the form of a thin sheet, to hold the ledge to the backbone 27, ribs 33, 34 being provided on the ledge to locate the backbone.
