Abstract

571,607. Securing wall and ceiling boards. COCHRANE, H. F. Aug. 31, 1943, No. 14217. [Class 20 (iv)] Lining boards 19 for the walls or ceilings of a building are secured to the building frame members 20, 20a, by securing devices 10 and clips 14, the securing devices being located upon an external angle of a member, such as 20a, to engage the exposed face of the board near its edge and the clips being attached to an adjacent frame member so as to engage and embrace the opposite edge of the board. The securing device shown has pressed-out tongue 11 for engaging the board thus holding the board against the corrugated external wall covering 21. The tongue may have a slot so that it may be lifted to the position shown or, alternatively, the device may be of spring steel suitably tempered so that the tongue will spring into this position. The clip has two oppositely presented channel portions, one 16 serving to engage the flange 31 of the frame member 20 and the other embracing the edge of the building board. Noses 12 and 17 may be formed on the securing devices and clips to engage in the fold of a stiffening member 22 mounted between adjacent boards, and a self threading screw 23 may pass through the clip into the fold. In a modification both the clip and securing devices are made from members of the form shown in Fig. 5. When used as a securing device, the part 24 rests on a frame member and the portion 25 forms the tongue for engaging the building board, and when used as a clip the portions 24, 25 fit over the flange 31 of a frame member and the part 27 is bent to embrace a building board.
