Class 29 [Also in Groups XXIII and XXX] In apparatus for the continuous treatment of articles which have to be cooled within a closed space, a work table forms the top of a processing chamber through which material is passed by a conveyer having an upper run which passes along and above the work table and a lower run passing through the chamber. The working table 1 forms the top of a cooling tunnel 5, the conveyer comprising two pairs of chains 20, 21, one for each side of the table. The chains pass round sprockets 9, 10 in housings 7, 8 at the ends of the table 1, the sprockets being driven by a chain or band and reduction gearing from a motor 11 or means for driving the gears may be provided at each end of the apparatus. Additional tables 43, 44 supported on legs or frames 45, 46 are provided at the ends of the apparatus. A subsidiary conveyer runs on the surface of the table 1, the conveyer comprising a pair of belts 36, 37 which extend into the working surfaces of the two end tables 44, 45 and which run in opposite directions to the chains 20, 21. The belts 36, 37 pass over rubber covered rollers 38, 39 mounted respectively at each end of the apparatus and driven by a mot- or 40, reduction gearing 40a and a chain 41 passing over a sprocket at one end of the roller 39. Carrier members 24 are located between each pair of chains 20, 21. Each carrier comprises a supporting bar 26, a holding member 27 swingably mounted on the bar, the member 27 carrying a plurality of hooks on which the material for processing e.g. sausages S are hung. The member 27 carries a pair of guide rods 29 the ends of which carry rollers 30 which run on guide rails 31. The Provisional Specification states that the two conveyers may be operated from the same prime moving source.
