Abstract
785,110. Electron beam focusing apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. (Nippon Electric Co., Ltd.). Feb. 28, 1956, No. 6113/56. Class 39(1). A magnetic focusing means for an electron beam comprises a plurality of annular magnetic means 2 positioned end-to-end to provide a cylindrical structure, annular yokes 3 of magnetic material positioned intermediate the magnets 2 and extending radially inwardly of the cylinder to produce magnetic effects in close proximity to the beam and means for avoiding unwanted resonance effects by the cavities 5 intermediate the yokes 3 comprising non- magnetic metallic means 4 intermediate adjacent yokes at their inner peripheries bridging the gaps therebetween. As shown the inner peripheries of the yokes are substantially continuous with the envelope 1 for the beam and the non-magnetic pieces 4 are metal rings interfitted between the yokes. In another embodiment there is provided around the envelope a composite cylinder of rings of magnetic and non-magnetic material having an outside diameter equal to the inner diameter of the yokes 3, the rings of magnetic material being axially coincident with the inner peripheries of the yokes.
